notimefortrivia guy

Greetings. Irrelevant though it is, here is some information about me.

I am a secular humanist, cynical pessimist with occasional manifestations of a humorous optimist. I am violently pacifistic and a libertarian socialist.

I endeavor to destroy myths and fictional history. I believe that superstition and myth have had their season and this is the age of science and reason.  Without dealing with history as it really happened we cannot move forward and through our past mistakes.

I am a former Marine, a firefighter and a paramedic and I practice aikido and muso shinden ryu iaido and find the relevance of them in virtually everything.

I play chess and read voraciously. Very little fiction as reality is stranger than fiction I’ve found.

I am in the demolition and hazardous abatement industry.

I have a cute puppy named Loki. He lives up to his name.

That is all. Carry on.

While I’m apolitical I’ve spent enough time within various establishments and organizations to have an informed yet hopefully humble opinion on many of the things that you’ve written about here. We’ll have fun.

Apolitical. I wonder how it is possible to maintain that state of…apathy? Distraction? Insulation? Everything is political. The world is on fire and politics will either put it out or become an accelerant to the blaze.

I enjoyed your pictures at your blog zen-traveler.com. I enjoyed your capture of color and of human moments. However, how can one enjoy the smile of an Iraqi child or a “best shot of the day” of a beautiful Iraqi girl in that environment and be “apolitical?” I notice that the pictures present a very sanitized view of Iraq. Perhaps that was your intent.

Politics have turned Iraq into a living hell. There are over two million displaced Iraqis that are now refugees. Depending on the source there are from 100,000 to a over a million Iraqi civilians killed since our invasion. The casus belli for our invasion was clearly specious and the PR effort to sell the war to the American public obscene in its scope and effectivness.

Politics turned the criminal attacks of 9/11 into a military response in Afghanistan and it seems that we have only made al Qaeda stronger, the Taliban reorganized and strengthened, successive years of record opium production and empowered drug lords while the Taliban and al Qaeda both finance their operations with the proceeds of those drugs, we have wrecked havoc on a country and installed a corrupt and impotent government that has no power outside of Kabul while civilian casualties rise and the prospects for any kind of “victory” dim.

Politics are what caused us to take our eye off the ball of Afghanistan, if there was any merit to our invasion in the first place, and become distracted in the quagmire of Iraq.

Politics…from the food you eat and th eavailability of the water you drink to the prices you pay for goods and services, to the environment that you live in and the healthcare that you receive, from the quality of the media and the diverstiy of it, politics is at the heart of them all.

But…of course you knew that. Your humble opinion is welcome on any topic you care to address.

    Con mucho gusto. Hasta pronto…

Wow, you seem unbelievably, incredibly self-righteous, self-absorbed, and preachy, even for an American.

I think you kind of come across that way when describing yourself, I mean everyone does. It is so hard to be modest and give things away about yourself. eg. “I am in the army reserves but I’m not much good at it, I play soccer and am terrible, I like mango but it is just average” then you come across apathetic.

As Popeye would say, Iyam what Iyam…

I just happen to have few illusions about myself. But…apathetic I am not.
