Meanwhile, Back On Planet Mission Accomplished…

Yeah, a new Supreme Court pick, oil spills, Arizona trying to spell Ima Nazi out of the letters in their name, banks going bust around the world and OMG whats up with Sandra Bullock?  So much to be concerned with and to focus on.  But meanwhile back on planet Mission Accomplished the grinder keeps turning our human sausage and the orders just keep pouring in.  Every now and then we get a bad guy.  Whatever that is.

So, Iraq.  Our new democracy at the point of a gun.  How’s things going there?  The AFP tells us:

84 Killed In Iraq’s Bloodiest Day

TWIN car bombs at a factory, followed by a suicide blast against emergency workers, and coordinated attacks on security forces killed 84 people on Monday in Iraq’s bloodiest day this year.

There were more than 20 attacks nationwide, a surge in violence that came as the country moved closer to forming a new government two months after a general election seen crucial to US combat troops leaving the country by August 31.

The deadliest attack saw two explosives-packed vehicles detonated minutes apart in the car park of a textiles factory in the central city of Hilla, 95 kilometres south of Baghdad, as workers boarded buses to go home.

About an hour later, a massive blast, which an interior ministry official said was a suicide bomber wearing an explosives-filled belt, engulfed the area as emergency service workers treated victims at the scene.

The interior ministry official said the explosions, which struck the State Company for Textile Industries at around 1.30 pm (6.30 pm Singapore time), killed 45 people and wounded 140 others.

I wonder how many people were dying from car bombs before we invaded Iraq?  Actually on Monday, as reported by Antiwar.com 126 were killed and 463 wounded in Iraq due to attacks.  America.  Don’t fuck with us or we’ll bring Democracy to you.  Like we are doing in Afghanistan.

ITN reports:

Six Killed In NWA Drone Attack

Six people, believed to be local residents, were killed and four others sustained injuries in a US drone attack in Inzarka village in Dattakhel Tehsil of North Waziristan Agency on Sunday morning. Some wire services and television channels had put the death toll in the drone attack at 10, which officials and tribesmen contradicted.

This was the first US drone strike in North Waziristan after the arrest of Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad for his failed attempt to carry out car-bombing in New York. Official and tribal sources said the drone fired two missiles on a house in Inzarka village near Madakhel, 65 kilometres west of Miramshah, headquarters of North Waziristan tribal region.

Our drones work well.  Too bad they seem to mostly kill innocent people.  Afghan President Karzai is here visiting our president.  Keep the dollars flowing and stay the course.  I bet that is what comes from that get together.  What with victory right around the corner and all….

Welcome to planet Mission Accomplished where we’re still accomplishing that mission.  Day by bloody day.
