Since It’s Sunday

It is sermon time.

Thankfully the blasphemous, irreverent and morally deficient crew of South Park have assaulted every sacred thing and person in our universe.  They have desecrated our most beloved ideals and insulted every respectable person on Earth in their first 200 episodes.  Dr. King, Buddha, Jesus,  even the Easter Bunny!  Yes, the Easter Bunny.  But the powers behind South Park were gripped by fear and cowardice and, though they have done it before, chose not to portray Mohamed in their 201st  episode where all those the people of South Park have offended file a class action suit against South Park.

Yes, slightly old news, I know.  However, its implications are startling.  There is a religion that is too fundamentalist to mock.  Mock them and die!  A fatwa be upon you, inshallah!  Kowtowing to the sensibilities of a group of the Invisible Sky Being Club that Hate Their Prophet Being Lampooned, Displayed, Cartooned, on TV and other locations Because We Don’t Like It.  Here is a story from the NY Daily News:

Web Of Terror: Jihadis Use The Internet To “Cow” South Park Creators

The Comedy Central cable TV channel last week toned down an episode of its iconoclastic animated program “South Park” because of fears the previous show might stoke violent retribution by radical Muslims.

In these United States, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have the right to depict the Prophet Muhammed as they like. They did so by cloaking him in a bear suit, suggesting that this should make the image more palatable across the world. Of course, it didn’t.

A New York-based Web site calling itself RevolutionMuslim.com posted a message cautioning that Parker and Stone could face dire consequences as a result of insulting the prophet

No, fly planes into buildings, blow up in market places, on buses, in schools…all because you believe in an Invisible Sky Being.  And that can’t be mocked?  In America?  I like how this great American idea is being suggested.  From Raw Story:

Seattle Cartoonist: May 20 Is ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day’

As a snarky response to Muslim bloggers who “warned” Comedy Central about an episode of South Park showing the Prophet Mohammed wearing a bear suit, one Seattle cartoonist, who calls laughter her form of “prayer,” is asking artists all over the world to create depictions of Mohammed on May 20, then submit the images to a Facebook page she set up.

Speaking on a Seattle radio show on Friday, cartoonist Molly Norris said she announced her idea as a way of countering the fear exhibited by Comedy Central in censoring episode 201 of South Park.

I will be making my drawing, poor artist that I am, and submitting it.  In the words of Matt Stone and/or Trey Parker:

“In the 14 years we’ve been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn’t stand behind,” outh Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone wrote on their Web site. “We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn’t some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle’s customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn’t mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We’ll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we’ll see what happens to it.”

Over a representation of the prophet of a group of people who believe in magic and invisible friends?  Something that can not stand up to reflection, humor, satire, even ridicule deserve those.  Let them prove God, and especially theirs, exists, prove that their holy texts are the word of their God passed through to Mohammed, and then prove that the Hebrew texts where  they learned  of Yaweh and Abraham, are not pure mythology and midrash.  Then I would say prove your side of Islam was the correct.  Sunni or Shia?  And after that I would say fuck him if your God couldn’t take a joke.  And you too.

Not display images of the Prophet?  Puh-Lease.

Oh, wait!  Was that a satirical representation of the prophet?  OMG!!!  And this…..?

Not Mohammed as a dog!  At least it wasn’t a crabby, crybaby Mohammed.

Get real.  Nothing is above humor, satire, sarcasm, ridicule and parody.  Except my Mom of course.  Leave her alone.  No, really.
