In The “No Surprise Here” Dept…

February 25, 2010 Leave a comment

I followed this story and never believed the police version of the events.  It seems that it was all BS.  Just as the claim that water and food could not be delivered to Katrina victims because of “snipers.”  Supplies could not be delivered but they could get Blackwater mercenaries armed to the teeth to patrol the streets.

Anyway, here is a look at one of the uglier events that occurred after Hurricane Katrina:

Ex-Cop Pleads Guilty In Hurricane Katrina Killing Probe: 2 Shot, Killed On Danzinger Bridge

In Hurricane Katrina’s chaotic aftermath, police shot six people – killing two – as they crossed a bridge in search of food. For years the case was a shocking symbol of the confusion and violence that swept through the flooded city. On Wednesday it became a mark of shame for the police department.

As victims’ relatives watched from the courtroom gallery, a retired lieutenant who supervised the department’s probe of the shootings pleaded guilty to orchestrating a cover-up to conceal that police gunned down unarmed civilians.

Michael Lohman, a 21-year veteran of the force, pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to obstruct justice. Prosecutors said Lohman and other unidentified officers conspired to fabricate witness statements, falsify reports of the incident and plant a gun in an attempt to make it appear the killings were justified.

Still I can not get over how a city in the USA was treated like a third world nation after a major disaster.  Even though this happened by local cops I blame GW Bush for his destroying FEMA by filling it with party hacks and for his complete failure to get aid and bring order to the survivors.  Everything that followed from the lack of care and inactivity of the Bush administration is directly on his head.

Now I hope these cops go  to jail and never take a free step again.  If only GW could join  them.

So Beautiful….So Ignorant

Lauren Ashley.  Another airheaded bible bimbo from California.

Miss Beverly Hills Thinks God Wants Gays “Put to Death”

As the California courts decide the legality of gay marriage, Miss Beverly Hills Lauren Ashley has thrown her tiara into the ring and believes that God thinks gay men should be “put to death.”

And her reason for saying this?

“The Bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman,” Ashley told FOX News. “In Leviticus it says, ‘If man lies with mankind as he would lie with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death and their blood shall be upon them.’ The Bible is pretty black and white.”

Of course, the Bible also says these offenders should be put to death:

A man who refuses to impregnate his widowed sister-in-law (GE 38: 8-10)
Whoever Strikes his father or mother  (EX 21:15)
A witch or a sorcerer  (DT 18:10)
Anyone who sacrifices to other Gods  (EX 22:20)
A man who has sex with both his wife and his mother in law-all three must be put to death  (LE 20:14)
If a priests daughter becomes a prostitute she must be burnt  (LE 21:9)
Whoever blasphemies the Lord  (LE 24:16)   obtw…Fuck God.
An unauthorized person who act as a priest   (NU 3:10)
A man who shows contempt for a judge or a priest  (DT 17:12)
A betrothed virgin who is seduced  (DT 22:23)
A person who acts as a fortune teller  (LE 20:27)
An entire towns population if they worship another God  (DU 13:13-19)
Anyone working on the Sabbath  (EX 13:12-15)

And on and on and on.  Shall we go to Wal Mart this Sunday and start stoning the workers?  Or your neighbor if they mow their lawn on Sunday?  Or Madame Lucy the Fortune Teller (Palms Read Here)?

That is the thing with these selective bible interpreters.  They only cling to what conforms to their personal prejudices and bigotry and wave off the other stuff as “Not to be taken literally.”

How sad that this seemingly attractive young lady is made so ugly by her ignorance and superstitions.   And I will bet that she has committed some act that calls for death in the bible somewhere.  After all, it is pretty much black and white.

Take That You Gangsta Mother Effers

That would be the private insurance gangsters that have us by the short and curlys.

The Gavel notes:

House Passes Bill to Repeal Antitrust Exemption For Health Insurance Companies

By a vote of 406-19, the House passed the Health Insurance Industry Fair Competition Act (HR 4626), introduced by Reps. Tom Perriello (D-VA) and Betsy Markey (D-CO). This bill is designed to restore competition and transparency to the health insurance market – by repealing the blanket antitrust exemption afforded to health insurance companies by the McCarran-Ferguson Act of 1945. Under this legislation, health insurers will no longer be shielded from legal accountability for price fixing, dividing up territories among themselves, sabotaging their competitors in order to gain monopoly power, and other such anti-competitive practices.

And as hearings began yesterday, insurance companies are in the hot seat for jacking their premiums by double digits while raking in obscene profits over the last quarter.  And these are the people the Tea Baggers are fighting for.

Anyway…I am glad to see this legislation pass and note that most Republicans voted for it as well.  Now is not a good time to appear to be in the private insurers pockets.

Fox News. They Report

February 24, 2010 Leave a comment

What Saudi Arabia tells them to report.

It seems that the ultra-right wing propaganda channel is aligning itself with the ultra-right wing Islamic Theocratic state in an effort to enhance their fairness and balencyness.  Think Progress reports:

Top Republican Rep. Issa Indicates Openness to Probing Saudi Ownership of Fox News

Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal owns the fourth largest stake in News Corp — the parent company of Fox News — making him the largest shareholder outside the family of News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch. According to the Financial Times, News Corp announced today that it is purchasing a $70 million dollar stake in Prince Alwaleed’s Rotana Media, a Middle Eastern music and news conglomerate. Boasting about the increased cooperation between the Murdoch empire and his own media corporation, Prince Alwaleed said, “This is a qualitative leap not just for Rotana but for the whole Arab world.” Because Prince Alwaleed has publicly acknowledged that he has forced Fox News to edit its coverage he disliked, conservative activists have attacked the business partnership as “really dangerous for America.”

Hmmm….”forced Fox News to edit its coverage he disliked.”  It appears he is doing what the president of the United States can’t.  Rep. Issa doesn’t seem too concerned about the foreign ownership and manipulation of a U.S. media outlet even though he expressed “openness” to investigate it because:

Well, I know Rupert Murdoch so I would certainly say he signs onto Rupert’s agenda, not the other way around.

It does appear though that the Saudi gazillionaire in question has broad interests:

When Issa says Fox News’ coverage does not seem to reflect Prince Alwaleed’s agenda, he isn’t taking into account the Saudi billionaire’s full range of interests. For instance, Prince Alwaleed owns a $4.3 billion dollar stake in Citigroup, and has announced that he opposes President Obama’s financial reforms like the banker speculation tax. On Fox News, the bank tax and other financial reforms have been smeared with misinformation and outright lies.

And I am sure Saudi interests would never come into play when it comes to the debate for clean energy sources and weaning ourselves from foreign oil.

So maybe Saudi Arabia and Fox really are two peas in a pod.

They Manipulate.  You’re Deceived.

OMG! Not…The American Justice System!

February 23, 2010 Leave a comment

Yes,  the horrible inadequacies of  the justice system for dealing with terrorists in this country has been demonstrated yet again.

The Christian Science Monitor reports:

Terror Suspect Zazi Pleads Guilty, Cooperates With Government

Terror suspect Najibullah Zazi, an immigrant from Afghanistan who was living in Denver, has admitted he planned to try to set off explosives to kill Americans, most likely in New York.

He also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country and providing material support to a terrorist organization.

His guilty plea may mean even more for the war on terror, since it appears Mr. Zazi has agreed to cooperate with federal officials.

A court of law!  A person arrested, Mirandized and not tortured?  Pled guilty and is cooperating?  In America and not some secret prison and in a military tribunal?  Going to prison for years?

Why…that’s downright un-American.

Vindictive God Has Score To Settle

February 23, 2010 Leave a comment

This just in.

God has a score to settle with women who abort their first pregnancy.  Instead of taking it out on the would be mothers He pours his fury on the child that is born after an abortion.   No, really.

Legislator: Disabled Kids Are God’s Punishment

State Delegate Bob Marshall of Manassas says disabled children are God’s punishment to women who have aborted their first pregnancy.

He made that statement Thursday at a press conference to oppose state funding for Planned Parenthood.

“The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children,” said Marshall, a Republican.

“In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There’s a special punishment Christians would suggest.”

It appears Virginia is upset at Texas for being full of retards and is struggling mightily to demonstrate the complete ignorance, stupidity and mean spirits of their elected officials.   An article in the Washington Post (here)  has this comment from a constituent in regard the above comments:

“I am amazed that someone has been able to slander my child, my wife and my God in one comment,” said Brett Wills, 38, a Staunton paint salesman who is the father of an 8-year-old boy with autism. “To imply that someone’s disabilities are an act of God to punish women in an immoral society is just the most outrageous thing I’ve ever heard.”

Jesus.  He makes people say stupid and mean things.  Of course now that this moron’s words have gone viral (Thank you Great Connected Tubes of the Internets!) this backwards bible thumping bully is backtracking:

“No one who knows me or my record would imagine that I believe or intended to communicate such an offensive notion. I have devoted a generation of work to defending disabled and unwanted children, and have always maintained that they are special blessings to their parents. Nevertheless, I regret any misimpression my poorly chosen words may have created as to my deep commitment to fighting for these vulnerable children and their families.”

Dude.  I think the comment:

“In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There’s a special punishment Christians would suggest.”

Is pretty clear.  And so is the fact that you are a douchebag.

Please resign and go away.

No Really…

February 22, 2010 Leave a comment

Texans are officially retarded.

Meet The Flintstones

Nearly a third of Texans believe humans and dinosaurs roamed the earth at the same time, and more than half disagree with the theory that humans developed from earlier species of animals, according to the University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll.

Here is an interesting graph showing that at least of a third of Texas are backwards nitwits:

The piece notes:

The differences in beliefs about evolution and the length of time that living things have existed on earth are reflected in the political and religious preference of our respondents, who were asked four questions about biological history and God:

• 38 percent said human beings developed over millions of years with God guiding the process and another 12 percent said that development happened without God having any part of the process. Another 38 percent agreed with the statement “God created human beings pretty much in their present form about 10,000 years ago.”

Tom Tancredo at the Tea Party convention said that Obama won because there was no Civics Literacy test for voters.  Well…I think there should be an intelligence test and that if you think the earth is only 10,000 years old and you have any kind of public office from elected representative, school teacher, dog catcher…whatever, you should be euthanized.  You’re too stupid to breed.

• Did humans live at the same time as the dinosaurs? Three in ten Texas voters agree with that statement; 41 percent disagree, and 30 percent don’t know.

Tactical nukes.  That is my only suggested remedy for the incurable ignorance of Texans.  Smart nukes that only take out the terminally ignorant and leave those whose brains have…evolved as well as the other life forms unharmed.

The most common religious denominations in the survey were Catholic and Baptist, with 20 percent each, followed by nondenominational Christians, at 10 percent, and Methodists, at 6 percent. Eight percent chose “spiritual but not religious,” and 7 percent chose “other.” Only 6 percent identified themselves as atheist or agnostic. An overwhelming majority said their religious beliefs were extremely important (52 percent) or somewhat important (30 percent). Only 35 percent go to church once a week or more; 52 percent said they go once or twice a year (29 percent) or never (23 percent).

And the survey says…..Religion makes you retarded.

Prindle says the results recall a line from comedian Lewis Black. “He did a standup routine a few years back in which he said that a significant proportion of the American people think that the ‘The Flintstones’ is a documentary,” Prindle says. “Turns out he was right. Thirty percent of Texans agree that humans and dinosaurs lived on the earth at the same time.”

Here’s an idea.  Just give Texas to the fundies.  Cut them off from all federal assistance, build a fence around them and let them inbreed themselves to extinction.

Moving on….
