They Pray For Obama

Never underestimate the mean-spirited and vicious nature of Christian Republicans.  Their latest effort at being cute is marketing and displaying the Pray for Obama Psalm 109:8 slogan.  They have even made this spiritual plea on a cute lil ol’ teddy bear.  Now who doesn’t like cute lil ol’ teddy bears?

Has the wingnut fringe of the conservative movement…which is actually apparently the mainstream GOP at this time…suddenly gone all warm and fuzzy for the president?  I think not.  Psalm 109:8

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labor.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth

Ah…that’s the good old Christian Right we’ve come to know and loathe.  Plastered on T-shirts, bumper stickers and even cute lil ol’ teddy bears they spread their disease of hatred and intolerance.  This imprecatory prayer calling for the death of our president is acceptable and encouraged by the religious right.  Rachel Maddow talks about this (a few minutes into this clip):

“Trolling for assassins”  the fellow said in the clip above.   The “American version of the Taliban” he calls the people behind this slogan.  I call them the mainstream GOP.  They are not funny, they are dangerous.  They are not “fringe” they are what the Republican Party has become.

I have an imprecatory prayer for the whole religious right:

Amen.
