I wrote about the obnoxious, bigoted, racist, homophobic and, of course Christian, group American Family Association and their plaintiff wailing propaganda piece “Silencing Christians.” It seems they aired it on NBC in Florida and…well the viewers just didn’t feel the love:
A flood of telephone calls and e-mails cascaded into WFLA News Channel 8 on Saturday afternoon and night over the airing of “Silencing Christians,” a religious paid program that some say contained open hate speech against gays and lesbians.
Before the hourlong program ended at 8 p.m., the station had logged hundreds of telephone calls and more than 1,000 e-mails, all protesting the broadcast.
Stratton Pollitzer, deputy director of Equality Florida, has seen the program and said the message was clearly hate speech.
“I think this program is a piece of homophobic propaganda and it has no place on a major network like NBC,” he said just after 7 p.m., as the program was airing.
Those poor “silenced” Christians. Where are the lions when you need them?
The thrust of the show, according to a Silencing Christians Web site, is that Christians in America are losing freedoms at the hands of the “liberal minority” which is “undermining the morals and values of mainstream America.”
Well…maybe that’s God’s plan. Or maybe He is so weak that his minions can be thwarted at the hands of the “liberal minority.” In that case why call Him God? Or…maybe if there is a God He/She/It is so sick of you Christards persecuting people in the name of God that you have just fallen out of favor. Maybe the Scientologists are right. Maybe….
Maybe they are full of shit and just an organized group of bigoted assholes. I personally think that is the answer.
I love the smell of delusion in the afternoon. It reminds me of…delusion:
The legacy of George W. Bush has weighed heavily on the Republican Party, casting a large shadow over GOP candidates in the past two national elections.
But is that toxicity beginning to wane? For the first time in recent memory, a Republican candidate is actively embracing the tenure of George W. Bush, citing the economic growth up through 2006 as a template of governance he’d like to pursue.
On Saturday, former Virginia Attorney General and current gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell delivered the following remarks at the Boys State Convention in Lynchburg, Virginia.
“President Bush put in a ten-year tax-cut on everything from the death tax to capital gains tax and it was followed by an unprecedented period of economic recovery and economic growth,” he said. “In fact, it almost overheated the economy through about 2006. So, I think that’s the way you stimulate business. And that’s the kind of governor that I’m going to be to reduce those impediments to entrepreneurship, to let small businesses grow and thrive and create some opportunity.”
As the Kospoints out, Earth to Conservatard:
Yeah, that meteoric economic growth of the Bush years, where his best year would have been Clinton’s third WORST year. (data source via the International Monetary Fund here):
Annual Rates of Economic Growth: 1993 Through 2008
The Clinton Years:
The Bush Years:2001 0.75%
I think he needs to find a cool spot and sit down for a bit. He appears overheated or something.
The only down side of Al Franken becoming a Senator for Minnesota is that he gave up his show on Air America to run for office. He had the best show on Air America after Rachel Maddow. Now Norm Coleman can go sell shoes or whatever else he is qualified for. Minnesota deserves Al Franken. He is a great guy and I wish him the best.
Minnesota’s Supreme Court has dismissed former Sen. Norm Coleman’s challenge to the state’s November election results and declared Democratic challenger Al Franken the winner.
The court’s unanimous, unsigned opinion declared that Franken “received the highest number of votes legally cast” and is entitled “to receive the certificate of election as United States senator from the state of Minnesota.”
If the ruling brings an end to seven months of challenges by Coleman, Franken would become the 60th member of the Senate Democratic caucus, a move that gives the party a filibuster-proof majority in the chamber, at least on paper.
The former “Saturday Night Live” writer and performer had declared victory in the disputed race after a recount ended in January, but Coleman, a Republican who had been seeking a second six-year term, went to court to challenge those results.
Right on and congratulations.
And the GOP slips furhter into obscurity.
I find it interesting that fundamentalist Christians disavow any and all science that contradicts their myths. However, let science cast a glimmer of plausibility on their superstitions and they shout the “proof” far and wide.
Scientific tests prove bones housed in the Basilica of St. Paul in Rome are those of the apostle St. Paul himself, according to Pope Benedict XVI.
“Tiny fragments of bone” in the sarcophagus were subjected to carbon dating, showing they “belong to someone who lived in the first or second century,” the pope said in a homily carried on Italian television.
“This seems to confirm the unanimous and undisputed tradition that these are the mortal remains of the Apostle St. Paul,” Benedict said in Sunday’s announcement.
The tomb also holds “traces of a precious linen cloth, purple in color and laminated with pure gold, and a blue colored textile with linen filaments,” the pope said.
The tests were carried out by inserting a probe into a small opening in the sarcophagus, “which had not been opened for many centuries,” the pontiff said. The probe “also revealed the presence of grains of red incense and traces of protein and limestone.”
So…someone was in there. Maybe from the first, maybe from the second century. Ergo it “proves” that it was St. Paul (closeted self loathing homosexual who never heard any of the Jesus myths if you read his epistles). Paul is basically the source of the misogyny and anti-semitism in the New Testament. He was incredibly disturbed and was a power tripping agent provocateur of Rome. Remind me to get into all of that sometime.
Meanwhile… Jesus is still and myth and carbon dating proves the earth isn’t 6000 years old.
The Pope still protects pedophiles and the Catholic Church is a stumbling block towards common sense, women’s rights and guilt free lives.
But you don’t need carbon dating to prove that. Just pick up a few history books.
And a hat tip to a fellow whose eyes are opening for this article.
Celebrating in the streets
Tens of thousands of Iraqis partied amid massive security in Baghdad on Monday to mark the imminent pullout of US troops from urban areas and celebrate the restive nation’s reclaimed sovereignty.
The American pullback, agreed under a security accord signed last year, will be completed on Tuesday, which has been declared a national holiday, but soldiers and police were out in force as festivities began.
“Since 2003, I have never been to a party,” Ahmed Ali, 20, told AFP as a large celebration got under way in Zawra Park, the largest in the capital, “but today I am coming to hear the singers I love,” he said.
Popular Iraqi singers including Salah Hassan, Kassem Sultan and Abed Falek, who all live abroad, had travelled to Baghdad for the occasion.
Revellers had to undergo three security checks to enter the park but no one seemed to complain amid a jubilant atmosphere, where an onstage banner declared that Baghdad’s sovereignty and independence had been recovered.
Even policemen joined in the fun, dancing with the party-goers.
“Today is the day that we got back our country,” said Salim Mohammed, from the sprawling Shiite working-class district of Sadr City.
And good luck to you all. You deserve it.
I just wish we hadn’t fucked it up so bad.
If only I could. If I see one more tribute to Micahael Jackson I am going to barf. On you.
That is all. Carry on.
No, we will just let it all slip down the memory hole. It is what we do.
The USA. United States of Amnesia.
We won’t demand the truth. We won’t demand accountability. Now leave us alone and let us fawn over all the dead stars and tv personalities. That is so much easier. Change. From one indefinite detainer to another. From one secretive administration to another. From one protector of torturers to another. Accountability is for other countries. Just move along now folks. Nothing to see here. You’re in America.
